Great Taste of French Onion Soup Mix
Liption onion soup mix has been a pantry staple in my life since I was a kid. It's a great short cut ingredient perfect for adding flavor to pot roast, soup recipes, and meat loaf. The intense onion flavor with cool sour cream is a delicious crowd-pleaser that everyone in my family looks for when they show up for a party.
Lipton Onion Soup Dip Ingredients

These simple ingredients are just a click away from your nearest grocery store curbside order.
- 16 ounce container of sour cream
- Lipton Beefy Onion Soup dip mix
How to Make it Ahead

This recipe has three steps. Are you ready?
- Combine sour cream and one packet of beefy onion soup mix in a large bowl and stir until everything is well combined.Β
- Transfer the dip to an airtight container and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes up to a day in advance.
- When you are ready to serve, remove the dip from the refrigerator and let it come up to room temperature so its easier to dip into.
By making this ahead of time, the dehydrated onion is able to soak up some moisture and soften up.
Serving Suggestions
In my little world, there is nothing better than a big bowl of wavy potato chips and classic French onion dip. However, there are plenty of other great dipping options to add to the party table.
- Crudite such as carrots, English cucumber, and red bell pepper are the perfect fresh contrast to this rich and flavorful cream based dip.
- Potato Chips
- Crackers
- Pretzels
- Sandwich spread- you can also use this dip as a spread for a beef dip sandwich that adds a bit of moisture with tons of amazing flavor.
Serve your prepared dip on its own platter with veggies for dipping, in a chip and dip bowl, or with a charcuterie board for fun.

Recipe Modifications
I have some picky eaters in my life and texture can really throw them off. Sometimes, I will separate the onion flakes from the powder so the dip is comepletely smooth.
Add 4 ounces of room temperature cream cheese to 12 ounces of sour cream and the packet of Beefy Onion Soup mix for an added layer of creamy tang. OR add a couple tablespoons of mayonnaise instead to add to the creaminess.
