We are going to make a healthy strawberry smoothie that fills you up and doesn't weigh you down. If you are a busy mom like me, a quick breakfast or a healthy snack that packs in some protein and vitamins will get us through the day.
This is a great way to get our daily serving of fruit in just a couple of minutes, but also keeps the carbs in check. This is also a great smoothie for kids who like a simple fruit smoothie without a lot of fuss. Its the best way to get a couple servings of fruits in my kids.

Easy Strawberry Smoothie Ingredients
These simple ingredients live in your freezer and pantry. That makes shopping and the prep super fast!
- Frozen Strawberries- frozen fruit creates a great frosty texture. If you have fresh berries on hand, pop them in the freezer for at least 30 minutes before making your smoothie.
- Coconut Milk or Almond Milk - I like unsweetened almond milk with a hint of vanilla for the low calories and low carbohydrates.
- Coconut cream - this gives a creamy texture without adding too many calories and sugar. This is my replacement for yogurt when I want a creamy texture, but want my smoothie to be dairy free.
- Protein powder- I add one scoop of protein powder per serving that I am making. One of my kids is not big on meat, so when I think he needs the boost of protein, I know I can sneak this in.
Why a Low Sugar Smoothie
A low sugar strawberry vanilla smoothie is perfect for us because we load it up with collagen protein and a little fat from the coconut cream for a balanced calorie breakdown. We really need protein and fat in every meal. It's so easy to grab an easy breakfast that is all simple sugar without much fuel for the day. The last thing I need is to go from an empty stomach to sky high blood sugar levels and then a crash before 10:00 AM.
The nutrition for this is pretty good whether you have weight loss goals or just want something to make you feel good. I'm not a nutritionist or anything, but 20 grams of protein fills me up and makes me feel great.
The Smoothie Supplies I Love
To get the best texture, a high-speed blender is a must have. I bought my Ninja Mega Kitchen System from Costco a few years ago. This one also comes with a food processor, so its a really great system.
The Amazon link above is for the specific blender I purchased and love, but may not be available in Costco locations now.
More Smoothie Items:
Turn the Leftover Smoothie into Popsicles
For a wonderful afternoon snack, my kids will go for these on hot days. You can pour the leftover smoothie into a fun shapes popsicle mold. Another option is using ice cube trays.
Optional Add-Ins and Recipe Modifications
The basic smoothie is such a simple recipe. Once you get that down, you mix it up and make it a little different every time. Whether you are making
Fruit options- berries in general are low sugar. If you want to mix in other options like blueberries, raspberries , or boysenberries you certainly can. The frozen berries blend from Costco is a favorite.
Add a frozen banana for more body and a thicker smoothie.
Fresh fruit versus frozen fruit- if you only have fresh strawberries on hand and you want to use them up, you certainly should. Just mix in ½ of a cup of ice cubes to create that frosty texture.
Type of milk choices- For the non-dairy milk optionI prefer almond milk or oat milk, but you can use the same ratios with any milk of choice such as soy milk, coconut milk, and of course regular cow's milk.
Almond butter or peanut butter- sometimes if I'm really trying to bump up the calories for my kids, I'll add a nut butter. This gives the smoothie a peanut and jelly vibe, almost like a strawberry milkshake.
Honey- For some added natural sweetness, you can add honey or maple syrup. This will change the total sugar and carbohydrate count ever though it is healthier sugar alternative. But, if a little honey is what gets a healthy serving of fruit, 15 grams of protein, and some dietary fiber in- I say go for it.
