    The Flavors of Garlic Butter

Garlic and butter go together like old friends who bring out the best in each other. Finishing a beautiful juicy steak with the bright flavors of a garlic herb butter brings the whole meal together. It is a simple recipe that can be made in advance and pulled out to upgrade your easy weeknight meal.

The Best Steaks For Garlic Butter

First and foremost, garlic butter belongs on filet mignon. Since a filet is so lean and tender steak, a delicious compound butter carries great flavors of this lean beef.

Another great option is a new york strip steak. With mild marbling and a delicate flavor, building a crust in a cast iron skillet and finishing with garlic butter brings this main dish together.

Ribeye steak, flatiron steak, and top sirloin are also good choices.

    Helpful Supplies

You don't need much to make a great steak butter, but I do have a secret weapon that makes it even easier.

Option number 1: use a knife or microplane to prepare the garlic cloves.

Option number 2: use a mini food processor which is my favorite.

You will also need a piece of plastic wrap and a rubber spatula to shape the butter into a log.

How to make homemade garlic butter

garlic butter ingredients in small food processor
    1. Peel and smash 2-3 cloves of garlic. Finely mince the garlic or grate it on a microplane.
    2. Wash and dry the fresh parsley. Remove the parsley leaves and discard the stems. Chop the parsley.
    3. Combine room temperature butter with the minced garlic, parsley, Worcestershire sauce, and salt.

Two Ways to Make this Compound Butter Work

Option number one is to add a tablespoon of the prepared butter while cooking steak in a large skillet. The butter will melt and release all of the garlic and fresh herbs to froth around the perfect steak creating a garlic butter sauce.

You can also use this butter as a topping when you serve the steak. After you cook your steak over medium-high heat and it has a good sear, add a dollop of softened garlic butter to the top of the steak.

How to Save Compound Butter for Steak

After you prepared the garlic butter, transfer it to an airtight container and store in the refrigerator for up to 7 days. You can also freeze prepared garlic for up to 3 months to maintain quality.

If you want to get fancy, you can save the butter as a log. Pull out a piece of plastic wrap and spoon the butter into the shape of a log. Roll the butter into a log shape and twist the ends.

    Recipe Modifications and More Options

Here are 3 fun ways to change up the garlic butter so you never get bored:

    1. Add a pinch of red pepper flakes to bring some heat.
    2. Lemon zest and lemon juice to balance with some acid.
    3. Use roasted garlic instead of raw garlic to take the edge off and soften the flavor of the butter overall.
    4. Additional herbs such as fresh rosemary or thyme.

If you want to make roasted garlic butter, cut the top off a head of garlic, drizzle it with olive oil and season it with a little salt. Wrap the head of garlic in foil and roast in the oven at 350˚F for 45 minutes.

This is a wonderful spread on fresh baguette to make a great garlic bread. Finish the bread with a layer of parmesan cheese to set the whole thing off.

Mix it in with pasta for a quick butter noddle side dish.

Use a dollop on mashed potatoes, broccoli, or greens.
