Why I love a Salad Board
One of the hard things about entertaining and serving party food is finding options that everyone will enjoy. Food is so personal and everyone has different preferences. When your guests walk up to a salad board, they can make their own salad exactly the way they want. No picking out vegetables that they don't like. Just flavors and textures they choose to enjoy. This way, everyone will leave your house happy and full.
Great Must-Have Ingredients

You can build a salad board 100 different ways and never get bored. For this version, all of the ingredients are focused on Italian flavors that bring together a variety of textures.
- Romain lettuce
- Leafy spring mix
- Cherry tomatoes
- Seedless cucumbers
- Sliced Red Onion
- Pepperoncini
- Marinated Kalamata, Green, or Black Olives
- Sliced Salami
- Sliced Provolone Cheese
- Salad Dressing Options: Choose a vinaigrette like an oil and vinegar based Classic Italian dressing or Champagne Vinaigrette which are my favorites for this salad bar feel.
Since we are going with an Italian salad theme, any olive oil based dressing will work. Thicker, cream-based dressings will be too heavy for the leafy spring mix.
Salad Board Supplies
You don't need anything fancy for a big beautiful board. Just some simple serving items and a little love.
- Large wooden board or serving platter
- Small bowls
- Small pitchers for salad dressing
- Serving tongs
How to Style a Beautiful Salad Board

You'll need a large wooden serving board or platter to build your salad board. Follow these steps, and you'll do great.
- Wash and dry all of your produce.
- Chop the romaine lettuce into bite-sized pieces.
- Prepare the rest of the vegetables: cut the tomatoes in half, quarter the cucumber, and thinly slice the red onion.
- Slice the salami, provolone cheese, olives, and pepperoncini.
- Now that all of your ingredients are ready, start laying out the foods on your large board.
- Transfer wet items like the sliced pepperoncini and marinated olives to small bowls so that they don't mix with the salad toppings.
- Place your small bowls on the board on opposite sides from each other.
- Now you can add your other prepared vegetables like the cucumber, tomatoes, and lettuce.
- Finish by adding bowl of croutons and small pitchers or bowls of salad dressing.
Saving Leftover Ingredients
One of the best parts about a big salad board is that you can save the ingredients separately in airtight containers. Since moisture is the enemy of fresh lettuce, you can transfer the greens to an airtight bag to maintain freshness. Depending in the day you shopped, the salad ingredients could last in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
Other Salad Combinations
You can easily turn this into a Cobb salad board by including blue cheese, chopped hard-boiled eggs, and diced bacon.
Made a wedge salad board by cutting large wedges of iceberg lettuce and laying them out on a board. Serve with diced crispy bacon, blue cheese crumbles, sliced red onion, minced chives, and homemade blue cheese dressing.
