Get More Flavor Than Canned Soup
Creamy tomato soup and a grilled cheese sandwich is my son's favorite lunch. When I started making it with Rao's tomato sauce, I was really excited to teach him how to make it and support his independence in the kitchen. It is that easy to make!
This soup has more flavor than any canned soup and the wholesome ingredients make the difference. The other secret to this soup... the butter. A small amount of butter adds the perfect glossy finish.
Rao's Tomato Sauce
As soon as Costco started to carry Rao's tomato sauce I immediately fell in love with it. It quickly became my favorite tomato sauce with its fresh tomato flavor. If you need a jarred pasta sauce to get you through busy weeknight dinners, this will be your secret ingredient.
Rao's sauce is made with tomatoes, olive oil, garlic, and spices. Plenty of real flavor for a delicious soup.

Serving this Soup with the best Grilled Cheese
This truly is a 5 minute lunch. I love serving a gooey grilled cheese sandwich alongside the hot creamy soup.
My favorite is a white cheddar grilled cheese with thin sliced turkey or ham in the middle. Make sure you preheat your skillet to medium heat so the cheese has enough time to melt before the bread is completely toasted.
Saving Leftovers and Reheating
My son likes this soup and makes it so often we started making double batches so he can have an easy re-heated lunch the next day. Just transfer the leftover soup to an airtight container and store in the fridge for up to 4 days. Reheat the tomato soup in a small sauce pot over medium heat. You can also heat it in the microwave for 1 minute.
Recipe Modifications and Fun Additions
- Red pepper flakes
- Parmesan Cheese
- Homemade croutons are also highly recommended if you have the time
